Clarence Leroy Van Cleef Jr the great American actor primarily known for his great roles in Western Movies like “For A Few Dollars More” and “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly”was born on January 9, 1925, in New Jersey, USA. He was a great American actor best known for his villainous roles in Spaghetti Westerns. Coming from Dutch parents, Van Cleef was the son of Marion Lavinia Van Fleet and Clarence LeRoy Van Cleef.

By the time he was 17, he got his high school diploma in his senior year to get his name listed for the US Navy in 1942. Having completed his basic training at Naval Fleet Sound School, Van Cleef was appointed a submarine chaser and later as a sonarman. Due to his meritorious services at Navy, Van Cleef won great many a medal such as the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle- Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

After retiring from the navy, it was the Little Theatre Group in Clinton, New Jersey, where he received his first stage role. The journey that Mr. Van Cleef started from New Jersey took him to Los Angeles to perform Mister Roberts where he was noticed by Mr. Stanely Kramer, the famous film director. He offered Van Cleef a role in his upcoming film. Due to his sharp nose, piercing eyes and hawk-like nose most of the time he was offered villainous roles that ultimately culminated in the evergreen role in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”.

By late 1970, Van Cleef had developed heart disease which led him to install peacemaker besides having been diagnosed with throat cancer. Despite all the pain and pangs related to his disease, Van Cleef didn’t give up. Ultimately, death had to intervene and this great and unique actor died on December 16, 1989, in Calfornia thanks to a fatal heart attack.
